THIS ISPastoral Care

At Sherfield School, we take immense pride in the high standard of pastoral care provided in our boarding house.

Our dedicated team of staff ensures that every student feels safe, supported, and valued throughout their time with us.

We understand that living away from home can be a significant change for students and their families. Our boarding house is designed to create a warm, welcoming environment that mirrors the comfort and security of home. Each student is treated as an individual, with their unique needs and preferences respected and catered for.

Pastoral care in the boarding house at Sherfield School is about creating a nurturing and supportive environment where every student can thrive.

We are dedicated to ensuring that our boarders feel happy, safe, and well cared for, allowing them to focus on their academic pursuits and personal growth. By fostering a strong sense of community and providing personalised support, we help our students to become confident, well-rounded individuals ready to take on the world.

Experienced and Caring Staff

Our pastoral care team is comprised of experienced and compassionate professionals who are committed to the wellbeing of our students.

The team includes houseparents, tutors, and support staff who are available around the clock to offer guidance, support, and a listening ear. Regular training ensures that all staff are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge to effectively support our students.

“The self-esteem, confidence and resilience pupils demonstrate is fostered in the considerate and compassionate environment modelled by the school’s leaders. This is particularly evident in boarding.”ISI Inspection 2024

Personalised Support

We recognise that each student’s journey is different.

Whether they need help settling in, academic support, or someone to talk to about personal matters, our team is always on hand to provide personalised assistance. Regular one-on-one meetings and an open-door policy ensure that students feel comfortable seeking help whenever they need it.

“As a boarding student, we have nothing to worry about his well-being. Each time we have the opportunity to visit the school, we see a great team spirit.”

Community and Belonging

Creating a sense of community is central to our pastoral care approach.

Our boarding house fosters a family-like atmosphere where students build lasting friendships and learn the importance of respect, empathy, and cooperation. Regular social activities, group outings, and cultural events help to strengthen these bonds and enrich the boarding experience.

“Boarders learn to share communal areas and house tasks across the age range. They debate issues in boarding meetings. These opportunities help them to learn to live harmoniously with others.”ISI Inspection 2024

Academic and Personal Development

Our pastoral care extends beyond emotional and physical wellbeing to include academic and personal development.

Tutors and houseparents work closely with academic staff to monitor each student’s progress, providing additional support and encouragement where needed. We encourage students to develop independence, resilience, and a sense of responsibility, preparing them for future challenges both in and out of school.

Parental Involvement

We believe that strong communication with parents is essential for effective pastoral care.

Regular updates, parent meetings, and an open line of communication ensure that parents are fully informed about their child’s progress and wellbeing. We welcome and value the input of parents as partners in supporting our students.
