THIS IS OUREarly Years Approch

We take a holistic and child-centred approach to early years education, focusing on creating a nurturing and stimulating environment that fosters both academic and personal growth.

Individualised Learning

Recognising that each child is unique, we tailor our teaching methods to meet the individual needs and interests of each pupil.

This personalised approach helps to ensure that every child can progress at their own pace. Although each day there are planned activities which centre around the seven EYFS learning areas, our teachers and children work together and often the day's learning is moulded around the interests of the children on that day. They guide the children to talk about what they are doing and why, monitor their progress and consider possible next steps.

Play-Based Learning

We emphasise the importance of play in early childhood education.

Play-based learning is integrated into the curriculum, allowing children to develop critical cognitive, social, and motor skills in an engaging and enjoyable manner.

"Early years staff develop children’s social skills and awareness by encouraging them to share and to listen to one another. As a result, children are able to collaborate enthusiastically and effectively, such as when surveying mini-beasts in the school grounds."ISI Inspection 2024
Strong Foundations in Literacy and Numeracy

While play is a significant part of the learning process, we also focus on building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy.

Children are introduced to reading, writing, and basic mathematical concepts through interactive and hands-on activities.

Experienced and Caring Staff

The early years staff at Sherfield School are highly trained and experienced in early childhood education.

They provide a supportive and caring environment, ensuring that each child feels safe and valued. We offer an education that keeps the children's imagination alive and eager to learn more. Our flexible teacher and child-led approach teaches children that their opinions and interests are important and that school is fun!

Holistic Development

Our approach encompasses not just academic skills but also social, emotional, and physical development. Activities are designed to promote confidence, independence, and a love of learning.

Parental Involvement

The school encourages strong partnerships with parents, involving them in their child's education and development.

Regular communication and opportunities for parental involvement help to create a cohesive support system for the children.

Well-Equipped Facilities

We provide well-equipped classrooms and outdoor spaces designed to enhance learning.

These facilities include sensory areas, creative zones, and safe play areas that stimulate curiosity and exploration.

Focus on Wellbeing

Emotional wellbeing is a priority at Sherfield School.

The curriculum includes activities that promote mindfulness, emotional regulation, and resilience, ensuring that children develop a positive sense of self and healthy coping strategies.

Cultural and Social Awareness

The school encourages strong partnerships with parents, involving them in their child's education and development.

The school introduces children to diverse cultures and perspectives, fostering a sense of respect and understanding for others from an early age. Activities that celebrate different traditions and cultures are integrated into the curriculum.
