Sherfield Sixth Form offers a range of additional opportunities to enhance the student experience.

As a Sixth Former, you can access some of the most exciting trips, both inside the UK and abroad. Trips and opportunities that have run in the recent past or are planned for the immediate future include:

  • World Challenge expedition to Peru
  • Volunteering Trip to Zanzibar, Tanzania
  • Cultural Trips to France and New York
  • Termly UK-based cultural trips for International Students (to museums, historical sites, sporting events, theatre trips and more).
  • Day trips to visit UK universities.
  • Overseas university and college tour programmes in the USA and Asia.
  • Termly Sixth Form Socials.
  • Woodlands Team Building Trip: Every September, Year 12 and 13 students travel to the Brecon Beacons or the Gower Peninsula for a team-building weekend.
  • Summer Residential: Year 12 students attend the Ignite Campus for an outdoor education and sustainability programme in the Swiss Alps.
  • Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award: Year 12 students can complete the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, with the Ignite Residential counting as the residential element.
  • EiM Student Leadership Conference: Our Head Prefects attend the EiM Student Leadership Conference.
  • Mentoring Programme: Each student receives professional mentoring and thorough training, enabling them to support the school community effectively during their service activities.
Student Leadership

Student Leadership sits at the core of the Sherfield Sixth Form.

Leadership plays an integral role in future success and in community betterment. Sixth Formers receive a host of Leadership training and a wide range of opportunities to lead support their future development and give back to the broader school community in equal measure.

The Sherfield Sixth Form Leaders programme includes:

  • The delivery of the Ivy House Leadership Programme to all Year 12 students.
  • Mentoring and coaching training for all Year 12 students.
  • Opportunities to mentor younger students.
  • Leadership roles including Head Prefects, Deputy Head Prefects, Head Boarder, Heads of Houses and Sixth Form Council Members.
  • Volunteering roles both at school and in charitable organisations in the local community.
  • Head Prefects attend the EiM Student leadership Conference, held in Seoul, South Korea in 2025 and Shanghai, China in 2026.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Every student for whom English is not their first language will have the opportunity to participate in 5-10 hours of fortnightly EAL lessons built around the Cambridge English Language Exams curricula. Students will receive expert tuition to prepare them for the C1 Advanced and, where necessary, the B1 First for Schools Exam. As such, all international students will leave Sherfield having been prepared for a qualification that will facilitate their admission to a leading UK or global university. EAL lessons will also focus on academic English and support students in accessing their A-Level subjects.
