WELL-BEING INThe Senior School
Key Wellbeing Initiatives
Recognising the unique challenges and opportunities of adolescence, we have developed a comprehensive wellbeing programme aimed at nurturing resilience, self-awareness, and positive mental health.
“The school has adopted a ‘sport for all’ approach, which benefits pupils’ physical and mental health.”ISI Inspection 2024
Personal Development and PSHE
---
Our Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) curriculum covers essential topics such as mental health awareness, relationships, and personal responsibility. Through engaging lessons and activities, students develop crucial life skills that prepare them for the challenges of adulthood.
Counselling and Support Services
We understand that students may face personal challenges or emotional difficulties during their teenage years. That's why we offer confidential counselling services provided by trained professionals. This support ensures that every student has a safe space to discuss their concerns and receive guidance.
Peer Support and Leadership
Senior students are encouraged to take on leadership roles within the school community. Our peer support programmes foster empathy and inclusivity, creating a supportive environment where students can seek advice and support from their peers.
Physical and Mental Health Awareness
Promoting a healthy lifestyle is integral to our wellbeing programme. We provide opportunities for regular physical activity through sports and fitness programmes and our ‘sport for all’ approach. Additionally, we emphasise the importance of mental health awareness, encouraging students to prioritise self-care and seek help when needed.
Partnership with Parents
At Sherfield School, we believe that collaboration with parents is essential for student wellbeing. We regularly communicate with parents through workshops, newsletters, and parent-teacher meetings, providing them with insights and strategies to support their child's emotional and academic growth.
“Robust anti-bullying and behaviour policies are clearly understood and implemented consistently by leaders and staff, which results in bullying being rare. Pupils feel comfortable raising concerns. When cases arise, they are taken seriously and dealt with swiftly and compassionately. Pupils’ behaviour exhibits their genuine consideration of each other and their teachers.”ISI Inspection 2024
We are committed to nurturing the wellbeing of our students throughout their journey from Year 9 to Year 11. By prioritising mental, emotional, and physical health, we equip students with the skills and resilience needed to thrive both during their school years and beyond.
