CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIESIn The Senior School
We believe in providing a holistic education that goes beyond the classroom.
Enrichment Programme
Our enrichment programme is designed to offer students a diverse range of opportunities to extend their learning and personal development beyond the standard curriculum.
Enrichment takes place on Friday afternoons, providing a dedicated time for students to engage in activities that foster growth, learning, and character development. This programme is structured around well-established and highly valued awards, ensuring students gain recognition for their efforts and achievements.
| Duke of Edinburgh Award Integration |
|---|
|
We proudly incorporate the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award into our Year 9 and 10 enrichment programme. This prestigious award promotes resilience, leadership, and community involvement, which are core values we uphold at Sherfield School. The volunteering and expedition sections of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award will be embedded into the Year 9 enrichment programme and the Silver Award into our Year 10 programme. Students will have the opportunity to contribute to their communities and develop essential life skills through challenging expeditions. Examples of activities include ‘Victorian Kitchen Garden’, ‘Young Sports Leaders’, ‘CREST Award’ and ‘United Kingdom Linguists’. |
| Alternative Pathway Options |
|
For those in Years 9 and 10 who do not wish to complete the DofE Award, we offer a selection of pathway options that are also available to students in Years 7 and 8. These pathways are designed to cater to a wide range of interests and talents, ensuring that every student can find a suitable and exciting enrichment activity.

| Year 11 Futures Programme and Academic Intervention |
|
In Year 11, students follow the Futures Programme, which prepares them for their next academic steps and careers beyond Sherfield School. Starting from January, Year 11 students will also benefit from academic intervention sessions focused on core subjects. These sessions further enhance their understanding and readiness for their GCSE examinations, ensuring they achieve their full academic potential. |
| Character Development |
|
The enrichment programme at Sherfield School is designed not only to provide additional academic opportunities but also to develop key character traits such as resilience, empathy, teamwork, and leadership. Through our varied activities and structured programmes, students are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, face new challenges, and grow as individuals. |
“Timetabling ensures that there is enough free time during the school day in which all pupils can relax, play or socialise. Afterschool activities provide enrichment, relaxation and the opportunity to learn new skills.”ISI Inspection 2024
Sport
We believe in our students' holistic development, and games and physical education (PE) play a pivotal role in achieving this goal.
Our comprehensive programme emphasises physical fitness and fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. We offer a wide range of activities, including athletics, gymnastics, swimming, and team sports like football, rugby, basketball, and netball.
Our dedicated PE staff ensures that each student receives personalised attention to enhance their skills and confidence in physical activities.
Sherfield School boasts state-of-the-art facilities for various sports and games, providing our students with ample opportunities to explore and excel. Our expansive grounds accommodate multiple outdoor sports, while our indoor facilities cater to activities like badminton and basketball.

Beyond physical fitness, our sports program promotes overall health and well-being.
We educate students on nutrition, injury prevention, and the importance of a balanced lifestyle, ensuring they develop habits that support their athletic endeavours and long-term health.
Whether your child is an aspiring athlete or enjoys being active, Sherfield School’s sports, games, and PE program offers something for everyone. Our inclusive approach ensures every student can find their passion and thrive in a supportive and encouraging environment.
All senior students participate in dedicated games in the afternoons. From Year 3, participation in interschool competitions and local tournaments is encouraged across all sports and age groups. These events provide a platform for our students to showcase their talents and instil values of resilience, dedication, and teamwork.
